Cornwall Council

Cornwall Council and The Council of the Isles of Scilly are looking for people with patience, humour and energy to become adopters. Becoming an adoptive parent can be fulfilling, life changing and make a real difference to the life of a child. On average we successfully place 40 children a year in loving adoptive families, and we continue to have children waiting for a family. We particularly need adopters for children aged 5 upwards, siblings groups and children with disabilities.

What services does the Council provide?

  • Recruiting and assessing prospective adopters.

  • Our dedicated support service is the Family Plus Team, and includes a range of in-house experts covering a range of areas including psychology, theraplay and youth work. Cornwall’s adoption support is lifelong. Cornwall was a pilot authority for the Adoption Support Fund and we have seen the positive impact the fund has had for families.

Other services provided are:

  • birth record enquiries
  • step-parent adoptions
  • birth parent counselling
